Vakoya (vuh KOY uh) in their ancient past were grim, nomadic wanderers just trying to survive on a harsh homeworld. From the time they developed steel around 296 BC, fierce wars were waged between the tribes for dominance over hunting grounds and foraging rights. Due to these wars, the Vakoya never developed agriculture. Then, around 1050AD, the Bah-koi tribe of the Graxi continent stumbled upon a crashed alien starship. With the willing help of the user friendly main computer, “Seth” (who had not had anyone to talk to for several thousand years), the tribe quickly began figuring out the true nature of their place in the universe. Thaonna, the matriarch of the Bah-koi tribe used the knowledge and technology of the ship to conquer her enemies, and soon, the tribe’s influence spread across the planet. In 1392, Thaonna’s descendant, the infamous Empress Doxanna, completed a thousand page book called “Bonna rhelax fu Yom”, loosely translated as The Edicts of Hedonism, a guide to generally enjoying one’s self. Humans have compared the Empress Doxanna to Genghis Kahn, the Marquis de Sade, and Casanova. Commonly called just “Bonna rhelax”, the Empress’s book is still studied avidly to this day. Perhaps due to their harsh ancient past, Vakoya seem to drink in every type of pleasure they can find. Thaonna’s Bah-koi tribe’s name eventually became the same name still used to this day; the Vakoya of Planet Graxi.

The Vakoya have a matriarchal society, ruled by the most influential females. The Vakoya are extremely hedonistic in nature. Sexual matters to the Vakoya are as casual as a human's handshake; concepts such as sexual dysfunction, sexual disorder, or even marriage were unknown until their first encounters with other races. The idea of having relations with a single individual for the rest of one's life is horrific to most Vakoya, and only non-sexual Vakoya are seen as deviates. Male and female Vakoya must will themselves fertile in order to conceive offspring. As a child is only conceived when both parents agree, children are considered very precious. The community all pitches in to raise the young, although they live with one parent or the other.

In 1902, the first Vakoya traveled into space. They colonized their own solar system for the next 400 years. Using newly found technology files from “Seth” they developed a faster-than-light drive around 112 AE. In 120 AE, the Vakoya had their first encounter with an alien species… the Borria. The Vakoya were nearly wiped out in an ideological war against the Borria from 120-150 AE. After two billion Vakoya were wiped out since the Borria did not want “Vakoya influence to spread into the Universe”, the Free Trade Consortium offered to help. The Consortium defeated a Borria armada, ending the conflict. The Vakoya joined the Consortium, and are steadfast allies to this day.

Physical variance
Large fur covered bipeds. Fur changes color with the seasons. It’s dark mottled browns or grays in the summer, and white with light brown markings in winter. Black fur is possible, but rare. Eyes color is highly various. Distinctive musky scent (scent of ammonia in the winter)

Abilities
Very tough & physically strong. Females are larger and stronger than the males. A typical female can press around 300 pounds, and the strongest can press around 1500 pounds. Poor Vision in daylight, heightened Hearing & Smell, Nightvision, Ultrasonic hearing. Resistant to Heat, Cold, Telepathy, Clairsentience & disease. Very resistant to toxins in general. Strong willed. Body mastery, Claw, Bite.

Attitudes
A lust for all the pleasures of the flesh is apparent in most Vakoya attitudes. Often full of amusement and joviality, no one likes a good joke as do the Vakoya. Voice is deep, and husky, full of laughter and life.

Homeworld Data

Parent Star; Bon'graxa, or Alpha Lupus, a magnitude 2.3 blue giant. Bongraxa IV, the Vakoya homeworld, is called Graxi. Graxi is a harsh, rocky environment, making agriculture a challenge. Caves are found across the globe. Extreme planetary axis tilt of 82° leads to half a year of dark frigid winter, and half a year of oppressively hot summer per hemisphere.
Dist; 620 lightyears
Gravity: 1.12
41½ hour day, 1438 day (4 year) year.

Lifeforms
Fauna
: All forms of life on Graxi are resistant to temperature extremes. Some life forms deal with the temperature extremes by hibernating in one season or the other. The largest animal on the planet is the Xanua, a 120 ft (37m) long carnivorous sea reptile.
Flora: As with the animal life, plant life on Graxi is hardy and resilient.

Technology
Quite advanced. In the 11th Century AD, the Vakoya found the remains of alien technology, in the form of a nearly intact 3000 foot long starship that had crashed on their planet perhaps millennia earlier. Much of the technology still functioned, and the advanced software was very user-friendly. The nomadic tribe that found the crashed alien vessel soon rose to the dominant power on the planet. If it had not been for the discovery of this vessel, it is theorized that the Vakoya would still be nomadic hunter-gatherers to this day, rather than the powerful force they have become. The Vakoya space fleet is quite formidable.

Biological Data
Pulse; 50-60p/min
Resp; 6-9p/min
Temp; 90-110°f (32-43°c)
Atmosphere Req; 73% N2, 20% O2, 7% Other
Notes; Omnivorous, neither nocturnal nor diurnal. Vakoya have phenomenal control over their metabolic functions. Fatty layers and extra fur develop in extreme cold environments. In addition, ammonia begins to filter into the bloodstream, acting like natural antifreeze. In summer, their bodies produce hydrogen peroxide as an energizer and endurance builder. Vakoya require very little water, and can survive long time periods without food or drink.
Reproduction; Sexual, 7 month gestation. Litters of 2 or 3 are normal, single birth or more than 3 are rare, but possible
